Multi-site study comparing attitudes and comfort of nursing students interacting with patients with a disability
This multi-site comparative study provides statistically significant evidence that simulation-based experiences with standardized patients with disability (SPWD) improved student attitudes towards people with disability (PWD). Analysis of open-ended questions found that students recommended these simulation experiences as a valuable way to learn about interacting with people with disability.

The just culture assessment tool for nursing education: Reliability and validity study
In spite of healthcare’s paradigm shift from a culture of blame toward a just culture, no tools exist to measure just culture in nursing education. The newly developed Just Culture Assessment Tool-Nursing Education is a valid and reliable instrument to evaluate student perception of just culture in nursing academia.

Effect of structured empathy education on empathy competency of undergraduate nursing interns: A quasi-experimental study
We examined the effects of a designed structured empathy educational program of undergraduate nursing interns on their empathy competence. The results showed a positive influence on their empathy competence, which fills the gaps in this field and provides a validated paradigm for empathy training in other nursing schools.

Faculty STEP to improve thinking
A goal of faculty development is to enrich the work of nurse educators. A standardized testing education program (STEP) was initiated by faculty to improve the clinical judgement of nursing students. This program can serve as a guide for faculty who want to encourage higher level thinking in their students.

Joining forces to provide diabetes screening and education in rural Alabama
The prevalence of diabetes in Alabama is approximately 1.6 times higher than the national average. A nursing faculty member and a PGY-1 pharmacy resident collaborated to provide diabetes screening and education at a local festival in rural Alabama.
