Abstract

Students of proprietary programs perform significantly lower in the NCLEX than students of other programs. This is more significant in the state of Florida where the NCLEX pass rate is below the national average. Although the discrepancy in the first-time pass rates is well documented in the statistics, the reason for this is unclear, and there is paucity in the literature addressing this phenomenon.

The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experience of nursing students attending degree-seeking proprietary programs in South Florida.
