Abstract

Depression is a common mental health disorder faced by older adults that can go undetected and untreated. It was determined that the project site was not using a screening tool for depression among their patient population to identify or treat possible depression. The purpose of this quantitative, quasi-experimental quality improvement project was to determine if the implementation of Yesavage's Geriatric Depression Scale-15 (GDS-15) would impact the identification of risk factors for depression and the initiation of pharmacological treatment, follow-up, and referral to a mental health specialist among adults 65 and older.
