Abstract
According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), 34.2 million adults or 10.5% of the population had diabetes (ADA, 2018). In 2015, 88 million Americans age 18 and older had prediabetes (ADA, 2018). Diabetes remains the 7th leading cause of death in the United States (U.S.). The "Prevent T2 Program" is an example of an initiative supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to address the increasing burden of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in the U.S. The program aims to prevent diabetes and complications associated with the disease through diabetes self-management education (DSME) and peer support.
