Abstract
Have you ever reflected on a patient scenario that did not go well? Then thought it would make an excellent case study? While developing that educational content, have you ever considered that you could be violating patient privacy? In this session, explore strategies to avoid common pitfalls when developing educational materials. Learn clever tips to assure your content is free from privacy violations. An internal audit revealed that fifty percent of continuing education documents contained PHI. The same organization submitted a Magnet document that contained PHI. The federal law prohibits NPD practitioners from violating patient privacy. There are consequences when patient privacy is violated. The PDS will share a personal and emotional journey of submitting a document that contained PHI and what it meant for her professional nursing practice and the safety and security of the organization.
