Abstract

Incivility is a major factor polluting healthy work environments today. AACN (2005) standards for promoting healthy work environments promote the use of skilled communication as opposed to discourtesy. Students in a perioperative elective practiced communication in an uncivil setting, and afterwards, felt better prepared to deal with matters of incivility.
