Abstract
It empowered the nurses through structural and psychological infrastructure, paying attention to the detailed work, applying the knowledge from other disciplines to incorporate in the nursing science for evidence-based practice, and utilizing skills in the nursing practice for healthy work environment engagement. Due to the nursing shortage, nursing leaders must understand a healthy workplace for clinical nurses and drive a positive change in the environment by using educational programs. A study was conducted in the hospital on a medical-surgical unit to evaluate the effects of Authentic leadership and actions producing positive patient outcomes. The study results include psychological empowerment, improved job satisfaction, and easy accessibility using the technology supported to decrease among medical-surgical nurses on a unit. AL (Authentic Leadership) theory and AL measurement tool were developed to measure nurse leaders' perspectives to enhance the nurses' healthy workplaces and promote positive patient outcomes.
Shared decision-making among the nurse leaders and staff has formed an atmosphere of “participating management.” Nursing teammates who actively participate in improving patient-centered goals by communicating during unit meetings and collaborating through emails as linked nurses have proven that there is a 70% improvement in the positive outcomes in the patient population in a community. Altruism consists of human caring, and promoting the autonomy of the individual is the key feature of the nursing profession. Mostly, all the domains are interdependent when considering the socioeconomic reasons of the clinical nurses; older nurses continue in their positions for longer compared to other occupations, and younger nurses take leadership positions early in their careers to fill the gap in the nursing leadership positions.
Organizing nurses' work by nurse leaders towards saving lives using the “teamwork approach” and interdepartmental collaboration has supported an increase in patient and nurse satisfaction score of 80% to achieve their daily goals. It supports a healthy environment by encouraging and educating clinical nurses on competency and skills in nursing practice to implement autonomy and altruism in performing their daily duties in the pursuit of hospital interests. The Nurse leaders used a shared decision-making and teamwork approach; both have provided the clinical nurses to enhance the healthy environment and to achieve positive outcomes for the patients, nurses, and nurse leaders. Self-awareness of healthy work environments has supported prioritizing patient care and enhanced clinical nurses' positive job performance and satisfaction to improve positive patient outcomes.
