Abstract

The purpose of this research study is to understand how previous involvement in a medical error or adverse event influences the clinical judgment of registered nurses. Long-form interviews will be conducted with registered nurses who have been involved in the care of a patient who experienced a medical error or adverse event within the previous five years. Those interviews will be analyzed utilizing qualitative, grounded theory methodology to develop a theory that describes the effects that previous involvement in medical errors and adverse events have on the clinical judgment of nurses.
