Interprofessional Simulation for Healthcare Professionals to ADdress Human Trafficking in a Clinical Setting [Title Slide]
Abstract
The purpose of this mixed methods study was to examine the Human Trafficking Collaboration interprofessional simulation (HTC Sim-IPE), informed by HT survivors, community agency members, and clinical experts, for improving healthcare professionals’ knowledge, confidence, and preparedness for HT care. The specific aims were:
1. To refine a prior passive simulation designed by the research team to prepare nurse practitioner students for HT care (Shue-McGuffin & Jordan, 2024) to the HT Sim-IPE active training intervention, with guidance from an established Advisory Board of HT survivors, community agency members, and clinical experts.
2. Quantitative Study Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of the HTC Sim-IPE intervention to improve nurses’ and social workers’ knowledge, confidence, and preparedness for HT care.
3. Qualitative Study Aim: To explore participants’ experiences with the HTC Sim-IPE intervention and perceptions of how the HT Sim-IPE experience affected knowledge, confidence, and preparedness to implement interprofessional HT care in their clinical practice.
