Abstract
Adolescent development depends heavily on sleep, which affects many aspects of a child’s life, such as academic achievement, emotional control, physical health, and cognitive function. Despite its significance, a lot of adolescents do not get enough sleep because of irregular sleep patterns, excessive screen time, and other factors that compromise their sleep hygiene. The transition from childhood to adolescence is a period often marked by changes in sleep patterns, making this age group particularly vulnerable to sleep-related issues. Understanding and enhancing adolescents’ sleep health is essential since sleep has a big influence on their everyday life. In order to better understand the connection between sleep patterns and general wellbeing, we went to the school to discuss the sleep health of middle school adolescents. In collaboration with Castillero Middle School in the San Jose Unified School District, we conducted sleep teachings during the school’s snack break and lunch period to get to know more about the sleep patterns of some of the students. Our goal was to inform the adolescents about how sleep affects mood, academic achievement, and physical health, among other aspects of daily life. The findings of this teaching provide valuable insights into the sleep behaviors of adolescents and underscore the need for educational interventions to promote healthier sleep practices, thereby enhancing their quality of life and academic success.
