Abstract

For anesthesia providers caring for perioperative patients, does the use of standardized safety protocols including ergonomic training reduce the incidence of back injuries and “boom strikes” compared to anesthesia counterparts that do not undergo ergonomic training or follow safety protocols?

Presentation Outcomes:

  1. Describe the common injuries that occur perioperatively to the anesthesia provider, as well as ways to mitigate these risks including available assistive lifting devices.
  2. Discuss the benefits of formal ergonomics training in the reduction of musculoskeletal injuries and head injuries to the anesthetist.
