Sigma Past Publishing - Reflections Magazine

This collection comprises print issues of Reflections magazine (1975 to 1999) and its successor, Reflections on Nursing Leadership (2000 to 2005). Published by the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (Sigma), the magazine migrated to an online format, http://www.reflectionsonnursingleadership.org, in 2005. Please note that the magazine is a Sigma member benefit. The historical print issues have been made available here in an open access format as a service to members and other interested individuals.

The mission of Reflections on Nursing Leadership (RNL) is to communicate nurses' contributions and relevance to the health of people worldwide. That's more ambitious than the agenda announced in the premiere issue of Reflections, the publication that preceded RNL. In January 1975, the National Council of Sigma Theta Tau established Reflections to provide a "channel of communication for national officers, national committees, and chapters for newsworthy information of national interest."

Reflections played a key role in moving the honor society from a national association to the global organization it is today. As Sigma grew, the publication expanded. By December 1985, Reflections had grown from a four-page, one-color publication to a 16-page, four-color newsletter. In 1992, full-page cover photographs were introduced, and the publication took on the look of a magazine. In 2000, the name was changed to Reflections on Nursing Leadership to more accurately reflect the magazine's content and purpose.

The current online format allows for more frequent publication—it's now updated virtually every day—as well as increased interaction with members.
