Abstract
Background: Clinical learning is an important component of nursing education; the student’s clinical learning experience supports the development of clinical competency1.Therefore, evaluating the quality of the student’s clinical experience is important. The Student Evaluation of Clinical Education Environment (SECEE) instrument has been evaluated and used internationally; however, the tool has not been used to evaluate clinical learning among Arabic-speaking students2. A translation and evaluation of the SECEE are required to assess nursing students’ clinical learning experiences in the Arabic population.
Purpose: This study aimed to translate the Student Evaluation of Clinical Education Environment (SECEE) from English into Arabic and examine the psychometric properties of (SECEE).
Methods: A psychometric evaluation of the SECEE. The (SECEE) was translated using the forward and backward method. The original questionnaire was translated into Arabic by two independent translators. The Arabic version was translated back into English by two independent translators. A committee of experts compared the back-translated version with the original tool.
The face validity of the Arabic version of the tool was tested by an expert in the field, while the content validity was tested by a panel of experts. The Arabic version was pretested in a pilot study with 36 nursing students from the target population. Cronbach’s alpha was used to evaluate the internal consistency of the SECEE scale.
Results: Cronbach’s alpha was (α = 0.925), measured internal consistency level. The Cronbach’s alpha for each subscale: Instructor Facilitation of Learning (IFL) (α = 0.889), Preceptor/Staff Facilitation of Learning (PSS) (α = 0.827) and Learning Opportunities (LO) (α = 0.801). All the above values indicated high internal consistency.
Conclusion: The Arabic version of the SECEE is valid and reliable in evaluating the quality of clinical learning experiences among the Arabic nursing student population. This is the first study to translate the SECEE instrument into Arabic, which can be used in future studies to assess instructor facilitation of learning, preceptor/staff facilitation of learning, and learning opportunities in clinical settings in the Arabic target population.

Description
This study is a psychometric analysis of the Student Evaluation of Clinical Education Environment (SECEE) instrument. The abstract describes the method of translation of the instrument from English to Arabic and the process of evaluation of the validity and reliability of the translated version of the instrument.
