Abstract

Introduction: Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) Hypertension Safety Bundle is a very important procedure change that is implemented with pregnant and postpartum women who are experiencing severe hypertension. Current practice in the state of Ohio does not have a standard for treating hypertension in pregnant and postpartum women (Ohio Department of Health [ODH], 2022). The AIM initiative was created to decrease complications with pregnant and postpartum patients with severe hypertension.

Research Methodology: There are 15 articles included in this integrative review. Some of the databases used included Nursing & Allied Health Database, ProQuest Central, EBSCOhost Academic Search Complete. Keywords included hypertension, pregnancy and postpartum, safety bundle, and checklist.

Results and Discussion: Results of this integrative review support the need for using a safety bundle and/or checklist for pregnant and postpartum women who are experiencing severe hypertension. The implementation of a safety bundle/checklist decreases complications for women with severe hypertension.

Conclusions and Further Recommendations: The conclusion of this integrative review is that the AIM Hypertension Safety Bundle is an evidence-based change that can have a positive impact on pregnant and postpartum patients experiencing severe hypertension. Further recommendations would be to study the AIM Hypertension Safety Bundle specifically to demonstrate its effectiveness.
