Learning Challenges and Its Correlation Among Nursing Students Using Artificial Intelligence Bots [Title Slide]

Abstract

The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has profoundly transformed the digital age, bringing notable implications for nursing education. AI, defined as the simulation of human intelligence in machines (Duggal, 2023), has revolutionized nursing, where students face various challenges related to Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSA) when using AI bots for academic purposes. This study examines the learning challenges encountered by nursing students in the domains of knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSA) when using AI bots for academic purposes, particularly in relation to ethical considerations.

A descriptive-correlational research design was employed, using structured questionnaires to analyze the relationship between demographic profiles, AI usage, and learning challenges among nursing students at Centro Escolar University. Stratified random sampling ensured balanced demographic representation and minimized bias, while strict adherence to ethical research protocols was observed.

Findings revealed that students frequently used AI tools such as Grammarly, Quizlet, Quillbot, and ChatGPT for tasks including grammar correction, summarization, and quiz preparation. While students acknowledged the convenience and academic support these tools offer, they also expressed concerns about the accuracy of AI-generated information, the potential decline in critical thinking, and increasing dependence on technology. Notably, female students reported higher levels of AI usage compared to their male counterparts.

Results show a positive correlation between AI usage and challenges across the KSA domains. Students who relied more heavily on AI tended to experience greater learning difficulties, emphasizing the importance of balanced and guided AI integration in nursing education.

In conclusion, while AI serves as a valuable academic aid, it also introduces learning challenges that educators must proactively address to ensure the formation of holistic, competent, analytical, and ethically grounded nursing professionals.
