Abstract

For years, nursing has been dealing with the problems of unhealthy work environments. This session explores the phenomenon of interconnection between the various modalities to combat this issue and discusses prevention strategies. Toxicity will prevail unless we recognize the relationship between incivility, bullying, and other workplace aggressions. By identifying the root causes and making the connection between them, nurses will be able to manage this situation instead of treating these modalities as separate occurrences and issues. Just as nursing is no longer a profession that functions in a silo, we must also approach these issues as interconnected and not as solitary occurrences involving individuals, teams, organizations, and patients.

Description

For years, nursing has been dealing with the problems of workplace aggression leading to unhealthy work environments, nurse burnout, and the phenomenon of resilience as separate issues. Yet, we can only correct these problems by focusing on their strong relationship. Just as nursing is no longer a profession that functions in a silo, we must also approach these issues as interconnected and not as solitary occurrences.
