Abstract
Learn how extreme heat and wildfire smoke impact patient health and discover practical strategies to provide safe, climate-resilient care. This webinar equips new graduate nurses with the knowledge to protect vulnerable patients from environmental health risks.
After watching this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify the pathophysiological impacts of extreme heat and poor air quality (wildfire smoke, ozone) on vulnerable patient populations (e.g., pediatric, geriatric, cardiorespiratory patients).
- Apply environmental justice principles to recognize how socio-economic factors (urban heat islands, lack of air conditioning, redlined neighborhoods) compound climate health risks.
- Formulate actionable clinical screening protocols and patient discharge plans that incorporate extreme weather safety.
